Abstract
Recently many investigators in medical field as well as in cytogenetics have been much interested in the chromosome study on human tumors. As the genetic mechanisms of the development of tumors are reflected in numerical and structural changes of the chromosomes, it is very significant to analyse the idiograms together with the numerical and structural changes of the chromosomes in comparison with those of normal cells for cancer research.
The numerical variations of chromosomes in uterine carcinoma of Korean women were already studied (Kim et al., 1967). However, this study did not include any structural changes of chromosomes and karyotype analysis of the cervical carcinomas, but only their numerical variations. Therefore in the present study the authors have investigated the structural changes and karyotype analysis of chromosomes together with their numerical variations in order to clarify, in detail, the characteristics of chromosomes in uterine carcinoma of Korean women. As till now few studies on the morphology and karyotype analysis with chromosome groups according to Denver system (1960) except that of Miles (1967a, b) have been performed, special regard was directed to the analyses of their morphology and karyotype in the present study.
